TomTom not connecting to computer (MYDRIVE CONNECT)

TomTom GPS not connecting to computer is the topic for today’s blog. Check the USB cable properly before use. Given below are some of the things to keep in mind while connecting your TomTom GPS with the computer.

  • You should plug the USB cable directly into a USB port on the PC and not into a USB hub.
  • Use only the USB cable supplied with the device. Other USB cables might not work.
  • Car Mount used to charge the device.

Note: You cannot use the car mount when installing updates on your navigation device. because the car mount will not be recognized by the computer. You must connect the USB cable directly to the device.

Important: Make sure you have the latest version of MyDrive Connect installed on your computer.

Advanced Troubleshooting Steps :

If the TomTom GPS device is still not connecting the software, or driver may not be installed correctly. 

By default, the computer will automatically download & install the driver when the device is connected.

Tomtom not connecting on Windows OS :

When Windows Device Manager fails to assign the driver automatically, you can install it by following the steps below.

  1. Open Windows Explorer, right-click Computer (or THIS PC) and select Manage.
    Note: If you receive a message asking to confirm administrator permission, confirm by clicking Yes or OK.
  2. Select Device Manager.
  3. Double-click Network Adapters.

The navigation device can be listed as “unknown device”, “TomTom #”, where # is a number, “RNDIS” or “Remote NDIS Compatible Device”.

TomTom MyDrive Connect

For “unknown device”, follow these steps.

Note: Double-click Other devices, When GPS is not appearing in Network Adapters.

  1. Right-click “Unknown device” and select Uninstall.
  2. Soft reset the navigation device.
  3. Restart the computer.

If your device has application version 16.201 or lower or any application version and you use Windows XP / Vista:

  1. Right-click the TomTom navigation device (for example TomTom #2) and select Update Driver Software.
  2. Select Browse my computer for driver software and select the folder that is applicable for your computer’s operating system:
    • Windows – 64 bit: C:\Program Files (x86)\MyDrive Connect\Driver\INF
    • Windows – 32 bit: C:\Program Files\MyDrive Connect\Driver\INF
  3. Click Next to install the driver.
  4. When the installation has finished, restart your computer.

If your device has an application version higher than 16.201 then use Windows 7 or higher :

  1. Right-click the TomTom navigation device in the device manager list.
  2. Select Update Driver Software.
  3. Click Browse my computer for driver software.
  4. Click Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer.
  5. Un tick ‘Show compatible hardware‘ and search in the Manufacturer list for Microsoft or Microsoft Corp
  6. In the Network Adapter list find and select the USB RNDIS or RNDIS6 adapter and click Next.
  7. When the installation has finished, restart your computer.

The GPS device will be recognized after restarting the computer.

Tomtom not connecting with Mac OS :

If your computer fails to assign the driver automatically, you can install it by following the steps below.

  1. Click on the Apple menu in the top left hand corner of your screen & choose System Preferences.
  2. Open Network or Modem.

Add your navigation device in the following way:

  1. Firstly, Click the plus (+) button at the bottom left then select TomTom Interface.
  2. Click Create, then Apply.

Check the status when device is listed :

  • A yellow/orange status means device is correctly installed.
  • A red status is displayed when device is not correctly installed. Follow these steps to change the status:
    1. First, Select the navigation device.
    2. Then, On the right side, click on advanced.
    3. After that, Click on Renew DHCP-lease.
    4. Now, Click OK.
      The status should now be yellow/orange.
